Background

Enabel in Rwanda is implementing projects funded by third parties (European Union and Luxembourg) in Health, Agriculture, Urbanisation Forestry and Regional teacher's initiative in Africa. Kwihaza project, is a 5-year project (2023-2027) funded by the European Union and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg through the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency. The project works with government institutions like MINAGRI, RAB, NAEB, RSB, RICA, and RTB targeting cooperatives, producer groups and SMEs, with focus on youth and women in the development of the aquaculture, fisheries and horticulture value chains. In efforts to increase the productivity of the project team, Enabel is currently looking for a Professional Intern in Strengthening Cooperatives (f/m).

Duty Station: Kigali, with field missions to Agriculture project areas

Duration of the contract: 6 months extendable once

Expected starting date: July 2026

Function

Under the direct supervision of the Agriculture Value Chain Development Expert, the Intern will support the management and governance strengthening of aquaculture, fishery, and horticulture cooperatives through capacity building, data collection, digital integration, and coordination of field activities. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the evaluation of cooperative performance and record-keeping following UGAMA's intervention.
  • Follow-up on the use of the Cooperative Digital Monitoring System (CoDMS)
  • Oversee data collection and management on production and sales through System (CoDMS).
  • Follow up on cooperative challenges and report progress on actions taken for market linkages activities
  • Assist in following up implementation of post-harvest facilities including field activities to assess progress, report challenges and propose solutions
  • Support organization of meetings, training, and field visits of the project teams.
  • Routinely prepare brief activity reports and recommendations for cooperatives improvement.

Expected Outputs:

  • Short baseline summary of assigned cooperatives and setting up KPIs in line with the project objectives
  • Monthly workload and progress reports in line with the KPIs focusing on cooperative performance improvement, market linkage, post-harvest monitoring, challenges, and practical solutions
  • Basic data and records from field activities
  • Quarterly report with key observations, lessons learned, and success stories.
  • Consolidated internship final report

Profile

Required qualifications:

  • Rwandan citizenship;
  • Age: maximum 25 years old;
  • Alumni of the University of Rwanda within 12 months of graduation;
  • Completion of a Bachelor or Master's degree in Agriculture, Fisheries, Horticulture, Agribusiness, or related fields.
  • Must have a minimum 70% grade for the final exam (2nd class honors or equivalent).

Skills and knowledge:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build trust with partners (facilitation, coaching, negotiation, flexibility, empathetic attitude, networking)
  • Self-organized, open to change and continuous learner, results-oriented, and Team player.
  • Willingness to work at the field in remote/rural areas
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English
  • Ability to work in an international, multi-stakeholder environment, maintain effective and cooperative relations,
  • Ability to contribute effectively to a collaborative governance framework by taking ownership, being accountable, and communicating honestly and transparently.
